NEPAL 2019 Mardi himal trek
MARDI HIMAL TREK
What?
A little known gem of the Annapurna massif. Mardi Himal (5587m) sits at the base of the sacred mountain known as 'Fishtail' or Machapuchare (6993m).
Where?
In the Annapurna Himalaya, the Mardi Himal trek is just East of one of the most popular treks in the Annapurna (ABC).The Mardi trek takes you through winding paths, small villages and steep steps up to rhododendron forest before climbing through to reach Alpine like terrain and views of the Annapurna massif.
How?
Mardi Himal Base Camp is at around 4450m, climbing up from around 1500m (from Phedi). Technically not difficult, the route is much less busy than the classic Poon Hill or ABC trekking routes. Along the way you will find good company and somewhere to stay each evening in the tea houses - with good Nepali food and hot drinks.
Most itineraries advertise the trek over 5-6 days, which is recommend, though it is possible to adjust the start/finish locations and to have longer days to compress the trek to 4 days. It is recommended to research a trekking provider to assist with trekking permits (TIMS) and booking transfers.
The climbing is steep - there are a few options of routes to take - this is a great trek climbing through rhododendron forest into alpine like terrain with great views of Fishtail and Annapurna South.
When?
The best time in Nepal for trekking are during the Spring (rhododendrons will be in flower) and Autumn (much drier/less snow/peak period).
